Hello everyone,
The trip is still going very well. I’ve had a little run-in with some nasty mosquitoes, but other than that all is well. We’re very very busy conducting business in the hotel lobby (interviewing people, meeting with long-time ex-pats, and other people). Then last night was time to hit the “town”, so we went to an “Italian” restaurant. Not quite the kind I enjoy in Jersey, but still an enjoyable meal. The owner was an old British man and he had a VERY young Zimbabwean wife. It was hotter than hell in there, so you sort of sweated on your food. I order a filet mignon (hahah, of course I did), which honestly was not half bad. EVERYTHING and I mean everything comes with french fries here—but I don’t even mind it because these french fries are amazing. I had some sort of apple crumb cake for desert and I noticed that most everything lacks sugar here. I think we Americans are a very sugared up country because no one else seems to think things lack sugar. So naturally I ordered some sugar packets and happily sprinkled them onto my pie/cake/dish. After dinner, Erina and I ordered cocktails to our room- Alyson-style cocktails. The closest thing they had to Aboslut and cranberry is Malawian vodka and peach juice…and I have to tell you- it is quite good. I just made another discovery- Special K red berries is NOT like the kind I remember from the States—no, in fact its much more similar to yucky Raisin Bran. Lesson learned. Well I’m about to go start the day – we have people to meet and places to go. (Note to Mom and Dad: my favorite “power bars” so far are, believe it or not, chocolate mint nutrition bars from Target. Once I have an address can you send me a few boxes? Thank you!)
Peace and love to everyone back home, miss you!!
Xoxox, Alyson
