Lake Malawi

Hello everyone and greetings from Malawi! It's been a very long time since I last wrote- primarily due to poor internet connectivity. But today is a good connectivity day, hooray! Many exciting things have taken place since I last wrote - including various trips to my favorite lake in the world- beautiful Lake Malawi. I was lucky enough to spend a few days at the hotel where I am planning a conference which is located right on the lake. We enjoyed yummy tandoori chicken while sitting on the shoreline (I now love Indian food). Lake Malawi reminds me a lot of the Caribbean with palm trees, beautiful breezes, sandy beaches, and huge rolling hills. While on that trip I was able to visit a few villages which was a wonderful experience. We visited an HIV support group of about 15 members, all HIV positive. They discussed how they live "positively" which is a mindset above anything else. They were so honest about their experiences living with HIV. I know it sounds cheesy, but it really reconfirmed why I am here in the first place. This weekend is Easter weekend so I'm hoping to go to the top of Zomba Plateau which I hear is amazing. Of course I look at Zomba Plateau every day while walking to work, just haven't had the chance to get to the top of it yet. I'm approaching my half way point during my visit here, time is flying by! Well, that's all for now- I hope to be blogging much more in the near future.

Peace and love,
Alyson

  1. It sounds like you are doing important work while you're there. I can't believe you're almost at your halfway point. (your old halfway point was April 1st...which I silently celebrated). Anyway, I am so so glad you are having a great time and not missing home too much! It seems you are on gchat right now, but "yellow," so away. Oh well. :) See you sooooon (ish). <3 tracy
