Last week I went to Liwonde at a place called Hippo View Lodge- where you can see hippos!! Of course they weren't out and about when I was looking for them- but I did hear them which is very cool! What I didn't know is that hippos chomp on people all the time and are actually really dangeruos. They don't do it to be viscous but more because they are threatened.
So now I'm in Lilongwe for the week. D'Lynn and I had a very eventful (horrible) bus ride up here - what should have been a 3 1/2 hour bus ride turned into a 8 1/2 hour tour through hell. There is no maximum capacity on these buses- so I people are literally on top of each other in a 90 degree hot, sweaty bus. The dude sitting next to D'Lynn made it his business to lean on her for the duration of our bus ride. What we also didn't realize was that the bus would stop oh every 5 minutes or so and cram more people on. Like I said it was quite an adventure- one I hope to NEVER make again. Anyway, so here I am in the nation's capital and so far have been enjoying eating at my favorite Italian restaurant (in Malawi) and drinking Coke Light (unattainable in Zomba). I'm also getting so chitenje skirts made so I'm excited about that. Don't be suprised when I return in "national wear" which are those really intense African dresses and head wear - because, yes, I am getting one made. Also- very exciting for me- I saw two new episodes of LOST online!!! So I'm only a few weeks behind now. Unfortunately, the connection is still super slow so I watched 2 hours of LOST that stop for a second every second- so it turned into a choppy 4 hour block of LOST- still good though, of course. Well that's all for now. Thanks for the emails everyone! Love getting them. Send me your at home mailing addresses b/c I just might send you a cool Malawian post card. :) Peace and love,
Alyson
